How Do I Configure Microsoft Outlook?

First, let us make a distinction. There is Outlook that you log into in your web-browser - this is referred to as OWA, or Outlook Web App. Then there is the Outlook Desktop client that comes with Microsoft Office that you install on your computer - this is simply called Outlook.

You don't need to do anything to make OWA work - it's already prepared.

Configuring Outlook, however, depends on which version of Office you are using.

This includes file and calendar sharing, organization contacts, messaging, presence and groups.

Exchange is only available to Outlook and Outlook online clients. See also:

Office365 uses an unusual naming convention for it's IMAP folders which Thunderbird doesn't expect. This means that you have to manually subscribe the correct IMAP folders. Here you see the name Thunderbird expects and then the actual IMAP folder in o365:

  • Sent = Sent Items
  • Trash = Deleted Items
  • Junk = Junk Email
  • Archives = Archive

So what do you do about that? You unsubscribe what Thunderbird expects and subscribe the actual o365 folder. There are further directions and screenshots here and here, too.
